Sleep Therapy Clinics are much more than mere 'snoring clinics' provided as a sideline to an existing medical or dental practice. Instead, Sleep Therapy Clinics are specialised medical/dental practices which focus exclusively on the diagnosis and treatment of snoring, sleep apnoea and other sleep disordered breathing conditions. Help for snoring and apnoea / apnea is the core focus of our clinics.
Our whole focus is on providing the best treatment (or combination of treatments) for your special circumstance.
In many cases, snoring is a symptom of more serious underlying conditions such as sleep apnoea. In one recent study (published in the Journal of Laryngology and Otology) a total of thirty-one supposedly ‘simple snorers’ completed overnight polysomnograms (sleep studies) to determine the real nature of their condition.
The sleep studies found that only two were truly ’simple snorers’.
Of the remainder, two suffered from upper airway resistance syndrome, nine (29 per cent) suffered from mild obstructive sleep apnoea, seven (22.6 per cent) suffered from moderate OSA, and 11 (35.5 per cent) suffered from severe OSA. Some patients suffered from complex sleep apnoea, meaning they experienced a combination of obstructive apnoeas and central apnoeas.
It is virtually impossible to determine the existence and severity of OSA without a sleep study – and so, given the serious health consequences of sleep apnoea, it is standard procedure for all patients of The Sleep Therapy Clinics to begin with an overnight sleep study. Medicare covers most of the cost of this important study.
The study can usually be done with a ‘portable sleep diagnostic recorder’ which you can wear in the comfort and privacy of your own bedroom, rather than needing to go into a sleep lab or hospital environment. The recorder is a 10-channel diagnostic system which measures brainwave activity, breathing patterns and stoppages, duration of stoppages, cardiac activity, blood oxygen levels, your sleeping position and other key factors.
The data from the recorder is independently reviewed by a specialist sleep physician who determines the nature and severity of your condition and prescribes the relevant form of treatment.
Patients who suffer from moderate to severe conditions will usually be prescribed constant positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy. Our specially trained sleep therapists and clinic staff will then arrange the necessary appointments for fitting and 'titrating' the best system and accessories for your needs.
For patients with less severe conditions, and patients who cannot tolerate CPAP, oral appliance therapy (OAT) will usually be prescribed. In these cases, a qualified Dentist who has undergone specific training in the treatment of sleep disordered breathing conditions will take the necessary measurements and impressions so that a custom-fitted appliance can be made for you.
Regardless of whether you are treated with CPAP or OAT, your progress will be reviewed regularly and a post-treatment sleep study will be performed to confirm that the treatment has been truly effective for you. This confirmatory sleep study is bulk-billed and largely covered by Medicare.
Thousands of patients have now been successfully treated and The Sleep Therapy Clinics’ approach to the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disordered breathing is recognised internationally as ‘best practice’.

Is Treatment Sure To Be Effective?
The treatment of sleep disorderd breathing is our focus, not a side line. As a result, and because of our advanced procedures and diagnostic technology, we are able to successfully treat virtually every patient.
No single type of treatment is completely effective 100% of the time – which is why The Sleep Therapy Clinics are uniquely equipped to provide both CPAP and OAT, or combinations of both forms of treatment.
Unlike other treatment providers, we believe it is our responsibility to provide you with a treatment that works, not just a treatment.
Therefore, we make a unique 6-point Commitment To Quality Treatment. Quite simply, if the prescribed form of treatment does not give you relief from your condition, we will continue to work with you until you experience a significant and measurable improvement. If we cannot achieve this, we will contribute the cost of your appliance toward an alternative treatment.
No other professional treatment provider is prepared to make such a commitment to providing 'a treatment that works, not just a treatment'.
Your investment will depend on which treatment is found to be best for you. Every patient is different and so The Sleep Therapy Clinics uses a variety of very different oral appliances and CPAP systems to suit the individual needs of each patient.
The cost of treatment is a tiny amount to pay for the years of restful, healthy sleep and associated benefits which you and your partner will enjoy. Numerous patients have reported significant savings – as a result of not needing to buy vitamin pills, blood pressure medications and various other 'lifestyle' medications to deal with the effects of snoring.
And importantly, you can be confident your treatment will be effective because all of treatments provided by The Sleep Therapy Clinics' are backed by independent scientific / medical research which has proved the effectiveness of this form of treatment. Examples of this research can be found on the Research page of this site.
