Step #1 How to prepare for your home diagnostic sleep study
Preparation for the Study
- Follow your normal evening routine.
- Take your usual medications.
- Consume your normal food or alcohol intake.
- Aim for your usual bedtime.
- If you shower before bed, be sure you’re fully dry before putting on the equipment.
- Wear a T-shirt or pyjama top.
- Wear the chest electrodes and respiratory bands over your clothes, not on your skin.
- Tape down all leads to keep the sensors in place while you sleep.
For the Ladies
- Remove all makeup
- Do not use any facial or hand moisturizing cream.
For the Gentlemen
- Trim hair in the V-neck area of your chest
Step #2: How to turn-on the sleep study unit
You don’t need to sleep for 8 hours, but Medicare requires the unit to be recording for at least 8 hours.
The best time to start is between 6–8 pm, though you can begin later as long as you still get the full recording time.
Step #3: How to put on the leads, wear the diagnostic recorder, & start recording
PLEASE CHECK THAT YOU HAVE CORRECTLY SET EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU GO TO SLEEP.
STEP #4: How to turn off, pack away, & return the sleep study unit
Please make sure to include the recorder kit, the sensors, instructions, and your completed Morning Questionnaire in the bag before returning it.
Please Note:
Your home-based diagnostic sleep study is booked for one night only. It is important you do the study on that night. If you find you are unable to do so for any reason, please call 1300 246 637 immediately.
The pre-addressed postage satchel records the date it is lodged. Delays in returning the equipment may result in late charges so please lodge it at an Australia Post office the morning after your diagnostic.
YOU’RE ALL DONE! ☺
Congratulations you have now completed your sleep study!
We will let you know once we receive the sleep study unit back and keep you posted about your results.
